Sharing some thoughts
“No appointments. No planning. Just time for myself. A weekend of getting lost in my stack of magazines. A considerable backlog had built up by now. As a lover of beautiful magazines, I buy them (to) regularly. And I am clearly not the only one.
In a world where we daily swipe and scroll through hundreds of TikToks until our thumbs cramp, a striking counter-movement is growing: the revaluation of print. Yes, the paper kind. Tangible, fragrant, carefully designed. Print is making a comeback. A good example is the comeback of fashion magazine Avantgarde.
We all feel it: the digital glut demands slowing down. Content is available anywhere, anytime and to everyone. But exactly that also makes it exhausting. As Avantgarde editor-in-chief Bastiaan van Schaik aptly puts it, ‘Before you know it, you’re 180 TikToks away in an hour.’ We are once again looking for depth and peace. For a moment for ourselves without notifications, without algorithms.
Where digital content is ephemeral, print offers an experience. You browse, feel, smell. You slow down. Your attention go to the full story in front of you. And that makes print extremely valuable, also for brands. It’s about quality over quantity. It doesn’t tell you what to buy, but why something matters.
For brands, there is a unique opportunity here. It offers room for storytelling, brand values and long-term connection with your audience. Exactly what today’s consumers demand: meaning, experience and connection.
The charm of print is also in the details. A cover that stays with you. A scent sample that evokes memories. A magazine that stays on the coffee table for weeks to come. The return of Avantgarde is not a nostalgic flare-up, but a signal. Brands that bet on magazine content today are creating calm in the noise… Just what I needed this weekend.”
